The inaugural SAFETY4SEA Conference in Cyprus successfully concluded on Tuesday 17 April 2018, at Columbia Plaza in Limassol, attracting 220 delegates from a total of 115 organisations.
Mr. George Tsavliris, Chairman, CYMEPA discussed the critical issues raised during MEPC72, including the reduction of GHG from ships, implementation of sulphur 2020 and measures to reduce risk of use and carriage of HFO in Arctic. Mr. Tsavliris referred to the chaos with the Paris Agreement concerning shipping.
Tsavliris Salvage has further expanded its fleet with its latest acquisition. The new tug "PROTEAS" (BHP 3,200 – BP 45T) was delivered on 19 March 2018 at Piraeus and is fitted with FIFI 1 capabilities.
On 23 March 2018 the Panamax Bulk Carrier "PEPPINO BOTTIGLIERI" (GT 51,255 – DWT 93,251) laden with 74,300 tonnes of soya bean meal and maize whilst outbound from Bahia Blanca, Argentina, with destination Cai Mep/Phu My, Vietnam, grounded about 1,9 miles from San Juan light-house. Tsavliris Salvage were promptly contracted to provide salvage assistance. On 24 March, the casualty was successfully refloated by the tugs.
On 1 March 2018, Tsavliris Salvage were engaged to provide salvage assistance to the Bulk Carrier "PANAMAX ALEXANDER" (GT 38,928 – DWT 74,247) laden with 70,260 tonnes of low silica acid pellets. The vessel immobilised due to propulsion breakdown about 600 nautical miles west of Bishop Rock, UK. The operation was completed succesfully on 23 March 2018.
The very succesful 18th Mare Forum took place on 12 March 2018 at the Athens Holton hotel. The conference was titled "Everything is changing" and was chaired by Mr George A. Tsavliris. The Mare Forum conferences are considered to be among the most global and influential forums for the maritime and shipping industry.
